Simplify Your Life

How we love to simplify our lives.  We have too much stuff, and we collect too much stuff.  Why not?  Stuff is fun to have.    Stuff is fun to buy.   What happens when the stuff we collect is controlling us, instead of us controlling the stuff.

I think about this a lot.  My husband and I live on a 44 foot sailboat part time. With such a small space, we can only have we need onboard, along with a plethora of sailiboat spare parts.   It makes you think.. what do I really need?

1.  Clothing and Shoes – it is so important to have the right clothes for the right climate.  The clothes should be the ones you love the most.  Have you ever gone through your closet and keep on going through the same clothes over and over?  You know, the ones you never wear?  The ones that don’t fit right?  The ones that are souvenirs?   Simplify your closet and get rid of clothes that are torn, stained and don’t fit right now.

Shoes – On the boat, there is limited space for shoes.   I love shoes.  But I don’t have room.  So my advice is to find two good pair of walking shoes, a sandal, and one fun pair of shoes.   You can do a lot with just those.

2.  Books – The fun thing about being on a boat, is there is room for books.  But not too many.  We have books relating to sailing, and then books for enjoyment.   When traveling, there are many places you can leave a book and take a book.  A book exchange.   This way, your book can be read and loved by others, and you can read something new in exchange.  Have you gone through your books lately?  Which books can you donate to a free reading service or a new friend

3.  Pots and Pans – With limited space, I have limited room for pots and pans.  I have found that 4 pans, a colander, and places for leftovers.  It is amazing what you can get done with hardly any pots and pans.

4.  Bills- We pay all of our bills online.  The internet is terrific.   This way we do not have to have to go to a post office, or carry stamps (which can get soggy in the humidity).  I know some people are afraid of paying bills online, but give it a try.  See how many of your bills can be paid online, and how many can be paid automatically.

5.  Income – The internet is a wonderful place.   Living on a boat part time, I don’t have an office or meetings.  Everything is done online.   My internet business is helping people overcome obstacles to be able to reach their dreams.    I work with clients via web video, messaging and on the phone  Where there is an internet or cellular connection, I can help my clients.   No commute is the way to go.  Is there an online business you want to start?  Do you want to stop your commute and working wherever?  Join our free newsletter.

I hope you had fun reading about the ways to simplify your life.

Yours in success
